I am a philosopher and currently Socrates Professor of Philosophy & Culture at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I work primarily in philosophy of mind, philosophical anthropology, and interdisciplinary cultural studies.
I am interested in a broad range of topics, including Schopenhauer’s pessimistic epistemology, William James’s theory of embodied emotions, and the aesthetics of trauma and cultural memory. You can find out more about my books and other publications here.
My recent research focuses on the history and theory of emotions, affective intentionality, and the phenomenology of the embodied mind.
